Boating Lake

View Rufford Abbey from the water as you set sail on our picturesque Boating Lake.

The boating lake is open on weekends and bank holidays starting on 28th March.

Enjoy the stunning scenery at the historic Rufford Abbey Country Park with this relaxing, fun activity, suitable for the whole family.

While you’re with us, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the woodland, meadows and gardens around the Abbey for the perfect day out for all ages. Fuel your adventure with snacks and refreshments in a range of cafés and restaurants. We also offer accessible parking, paths and facilities throughout the park.

Just £12 per boat for a 30-minute boating trip, on open days boating is available 11am until 3pm (last boat at 2:30pm). We have pedalos that seat up to 4, and rowing boats seat up to 6. Tickets are available to purchase on site on the day, at the dock.

Please note that days and times may vary due to weather conditions or operational requirements.

Please note that boating on the lake is available for onsite purchase only, on the day of your visit.

⚠️ Important Safety & Accessibility Information

We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time on the water. While Rufford Abbey Country Park proudly offers accessible parking, paths, and facilities throughout the main grounds, please note that the boating activity itself involves unique physical demands:

  • Mobility & Fitness: Boarding and operating the craft requires a moderate level of physical fitness and agility. Participants will need to step down into the vessels, which involves a significant amount of bending and lifting. Consequently, the boats are not wheelchair accessible, and guests must be able to board and disembark unassisted.

  • Weight & Capacity Limits: To ensure the safety, balance, and stability of our vessels on the water, strict weight and capacity restrictions apply to both pedalos and rowing boats.

  • Four-Legged Friends: To guarantee the comfort and safety of all passengers, dogs and other pets are not permitted on board the boats.

  • Supervision: Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
